Zinnias! Colorful, Easy, Fast-Growing
I love these annuals!! A favorite in my gardens and so easy to grow. Zinnia seeds can be started indoors in early spring or sprinkled on top or planted a half inch deep into your soil in the spring. These are one of the easiest annuals to start from seed in Minnesota!
Not into starting them from seed? You can buy these beauties already growing and ready to go into your garden at nurseries.
Zinnias rank high in “happiness factor” with their cheerful, crayon colors. Plus, they’ll thrive during the long hot days of summer, when other flowers have given up, and continue to flower profusely until frost finally kills them in the fall. Heat- and drought-resistant, they keep branching willingly so the more you cut them to share with friends and family, the more flowers you will have. Talk about a hard-working flower!
This is one plant you won’t have to fuss over. They are happy with an inch of water a week and need little additional fertilizing. Soon you’ll be picking armloads of flowers! Just be prepared to deadhead and cut off spent flowers. Another plus – deer and rabbit typically leave these alone.
