Our Favorite Garden Apparel

Do you wear your worn T-shirt and pants or shorts that are so thin that your unmentionables show through?   That may be fine for your backyard, but the Garden’s by Lynn team prefers to look professional; at least until we get dirty!

Along with our Garden’s by Lynn identity T-shirts, many team members have favorites for working in your gardens.

Overalls

The Women’s Heirloom Gardening Overalls (Long and Short) from Duluth Trading Company are a long-lasting favorite of both Gillian and Linda.  They are available in a variety of colors, designs and sizes.  One of the latest designs feature Gnomes!

Aside from being stylish, they are comfortable and functional.

These elements make them comfortable.  They have a “Crotch Gusset” which lets you bend without binding, the straps are no-slip and elasticized, and the material is a bit stretchy.

If that’s not enough to convince you to style up from your worn garden clothing, think about lots of pockets and UPF 50 sun protection.

Watch for Gillian or Linda “stylin’” in a garden near you!

Arm Protection

As a substitute for having to wear heavy long sleeves to protect against sunburn, scratches, and skin allergens, Linda likes wearing Farmers Defense sleeves.  They are made from recycled materials and have moisture-wicking features that can keep you cool and dry.  They come in a multitude of sizes and designs for the solid colors of tropical flowers.  Linda wears a pair that are called Sea Weed while she weeds gardens and dreams of the beach.

Gloves

The Garden’s by Lynn team wears out dozens of pairs of gloves each year either by hand digging weeds out of rocks or just everyday gardening.  Cathy’s favorite gloves are “Mud” gloves.  They are made with a tough latex coating that is highly abrasion resistant and covers the knuckles to give protection against rough objects in the ground.  They have a natural cotton liner that is soft and breathable, they are good for wet or dry conditions, and they last longer than most garden gloves.  And last but not least, they are washable!

Boots

Whether you’re working on the job-site, on the ranch, hunting, or even in the military your boots will say that you mean business.  This is fitting for Lynn, the owner of Garden’s by Lynn.  Her favorite apparel item is a pair of Columbia work boots.  She likes them because they are waterproof, comfortable, light weight, and have good traction for those job sites that are uneven and can be slippery when wet.

Rain Boots

Low Ankle Boot:  In an easy slip-on style, Muckster ll Women’s Rubber Garden Shoes keep you protected from mud and puddles while gardening. These garden shoes are lightweight, 100% waterproof and are designed to adapt to the movements and contours of your feet while you walk, bend and crouch. The high-traction outsole makes excellent contact with slick surfaces.  In addition, these shoes are breathable for comfort in warm weather. These shoes are a great choice for gardening, walking the dog and running errands.

High Ankle Boot:  Rocket Dog has a snazzy green women’s Chelsea boot with a good treaded sole.  These boots are waterproof, have a heel loop for easy on and off, and a comfortable round toe.  A perfect for muddy conditions or rainy days.

High Boot

Whether you want to splash in a puddle or work in the garden, high rain boots will keep your feet
and your pants dry. High rain boots are available in various designs. The boots shown are Skechers
BOBS in a fun, colorful dog print. (The team is surprised Lynn doesn’t have a pair of these dog print
boots yet!). These boots have a fabric lining, cushioned footbed, round toe, and a traction sole. A fun
boot for rainy day work.

Hats

Sunny summer days can take its toll on gardeners’ skin.  A gardening hat should provide sufficient shade and protect your skin from tanning.

Gardening hats come in different sizes, shapes, and designs. It can become a bit indecisive to choose the perfect hat. Esthetics are not always the best choice; you need to understand their essential characteristics and purpose.

When considering the characteristics of a sun hat keep in mind purchasing one with UPF fabric, whether it is washable, a wide brim, and if it will keep sweat out of your eyes.  When choosing a color, remember that light colors reflect the sun and dark colors absorb the sun.  If you work in a windy area, a sun hat with a chin strap is a must.
